While some kind of footwear is required on most golf courses, are golf shoes really necessary? This is a question to be answered by each individual golfer as it is his or her feet we are talking about.
Some courses require soft spikes only so the course doesn’t get chewed up with the walking around people have to do when playing, especially if the people are walking the entire course. And, most club houses will only allow soft spikes to be worn inside, to protect the carpet.
Let us be honest with one another, the vast majority of golf shoes are not attractive footwear. But, golf shoes are far from being the ugliest footwear in sports. That honor, dubious though it may be, belongs entirely to bowling shoes. Who, in their right mind, would want to wear red and green shoes, especially that type of shoes? At least golf shoes are designed in a more practical, and somewhat more attractive, manner. But, are they really needed in order for a person to play golf?

No, they are not. The footwear a golfer chooses to wear can be practically anything from moccasins to a good athletic shoe. A golfer’s footwork is more important than his or her choice in footwear.
But, the shoe a golfer wears should be comfortable on his or her feet. There is nothing worse for a golfer than an uncomfortable shoe. If the toes are pinched, or the back rides up on the heel, the golfer will be miserable and will not be able to concentrate on playing golf, which is why he or she is on the golf course in the first place.
So, comfort comes first. After comfort, traction is important. This is because the golfer can’t have their feet turning after they have struck the ball. If this happens, the ball will careen wildly, most likely winding up as a major league slice or hook. The ball, though, will not go where the golfer had planned to hit it.
Should a golfer choose to forego golf shoes for another type of footwear, he or she should think about the type of shoe he or she wants to wear on the links. They should then examine the tread pattern on the bottom of the shoe. If the bottom of the shoe is slick, with no pattern at all, it would be a good idea to leave these shoes behind as there will be little, if any traction, and none at all if the course is wet, either from rain or dew.
What is the best type of tread pattern? Again, this will be up to the individual golfer and his or her preferences. For some, the old tire tread pattern (used on the sole of a lot of boots and sandals) works well. This type of shoe sole will provide traction for the golfer.
Some may prefer a circular pattern of sole, while others may like something entirely different.
The most important thing, though, is for the golfer to be comfortable and confident with the shoes being worn when playing. In fact, the less a golfer thinks about shoes when playing is a good thing.
That should help…

The golf lob shot is a critical shot that can get you out of some tricky situations. The golf lob shot is typically used inside of 40 yards to get the golf ball up quickly and land with little roll. Below are specific situations where the golf lob shot is a great option:
You have a greenside bunker that lies between you and the hole and you need to shoot over the bunker.
The flagstick is fairly close to the fringe which discourages very little roll of the golf ball. However, you are too far from the green to putt the ball.
The putting green is located at higher elevation than you requiring a high pitch shot with little roll.
The following are lob shot tips to successfully execute the golf lob shot every time.
1. To achieve the necessary loft (and minimize the roll) use a lob wedge (60 degrees of loft) or sand wedge (fifty-six degrees of loft).
2. Proper setup for the golf lob shot is critical. When setting up for the golf lob shot, open your stance to the left of the target line and open your clubface. Place and keep 60 percent of your body weight on your left leg throughout the shot. Position the ball left of center which promotes a higher trajectory.
3. Golf lob shot swing execution: On your takeaway, hinge your wrist early in your backswing and bring your backswing to the “9 o’clock” position. Keep your hinge and open clubface on the downswing even after impact.
4. The follow through should reflect the backswing and stop at the “3 o’clock” position.
Practice the golf lob shot regularly as part of your short game routine. In your practice range sessions, start with short chip shots, then pitch shots. Once you have practiced a few 30, 50 and 60 yard pitch shots, hit a few golf lob shots.
Then, when you work your way through your irons and driver, periodically sneak in a few pitch shots and golf lob shots to practice the fundamentals. In little time, you will find the golf lob shot fairly straightforward to execute and a great part of your arsenal to help lower your scores.

If you are looking to play a few good games of golf as well as take a vacation there are plenty of options that you have. There are numerous places all around the country that have several fabulous golf courses all together in a very close area. With a bit of careful planning you can ensure that you are able to play on numerous golf courses all by going to a single destination. This requires a bit of planning ahead, but if you are careful in how you plan your trip, there are destinations that are full of as many as 10 golf courses in a single area, which will give you plenty of options for what you would like to play in terms of location and course difficulty.

With golf becoming such a popular sport in recent years, the number of hotels as well as other attractions that are located close to golf courses has increased as well. While in the past, everyone was forced to choose between a vacation of golf or something else you can now easily combine everything together into the perfect opportunity to spend time with your family, golf and still enjoy other activities as well. This is also perfect for those trips that you are taking with your family when not everyone is interested in golf.
If you are looking to take your family with you including children it is very important to ensure that other activities are located close by. Most children do not find trooping around a golf course for an entire vacation to be enjoyable, which leaves you with a problem of what to do in order to ensure that everyone has a great time. Other considerations include the fact that many golf courses will not allow children on the course due to the safety considerations. The fact of the matter is that golf can be extremely dangerous if the golfer loses their concentration when they are swinging, this can result in others getting hurt.

Going on a vacation to a lot of golf courses can seem like heaven; however before you pack your bags to go you need to take some time to look into the policies and guidelines for the courses that you anticipate visiting. This is very important because of the number of people who tend to travel makes it sometimes very difficult to get a slot on the schedule. If you call ahead to check into the exact policies and procedures you can know in advance if you need to book your slot, and if so how far in advance and all other pertinent details for the trip. Waiting until the last minute could find you without any time on the course if it is booked up.
If you would rather skip the mundane details look into having a travel agent book your trip. This will allow you to have the agent handle the small details for each of the courses that you are interested in playing. If you are extremely busy this can be a great way to ensure that even the small details are handled and you still have time to pack and enjoy your vacation. Working and struggling to plan a vacation can often be very difficult, so having someone help you to ensure that you do not forget anything is a great help.
As you can see, with a bit of planning ahead and some time spent on researching the courses as well as areas where you are interested in traveling you may be surprised at how easy it is to plan a great golf vacation that your entire family can enjoy. There is simply no reason to think that a vacation is not a good time for golf, the number of golf courses located all around the country ensure that almost anywhere you go you can enjoy a great game of golf at a beautiful course.

Even after playing the game for years (decades?) you never know what’s going to happen each time you step foot on the golf course. Personally speaking, it is this “unknown” aspect of golf that makes the game the most exciting sport to play, and nerve wracking too! I try to hit a full round at my local course at least three times per week and every game I play is an entirely new experience altogether.
Because of the hundreds of unexpected shots that golf brings you, it is imperative that you take advantage of your practice time. Regular practice is the only way that you can experience some of the irregular situations your golf ball may get into. And speaking of practice, the best advice that I can give is to start utilizing unconventional approaches to your golf game.
What Does Unconventional Practice Mean?
Far too many players spend the majority of their time hitting long distance shots at the golf range, with a small percentage attacking their basic short game shots. Either way, neither one of these approaches practiced 100% of the time will present you with the opportunity to make those strange and undesirable shots that a real golf game will inevitably give you.
Free Golf Lesson: Look Away
To give you a perfect example of an unconventional practice shot, here is a lesson that can help you keep your head down and eyes on the ball when initiating your swing when your ball is in a troubled spot.
Step 1: First take your stance to the right side of the ball if you are left handed, and to the left side of the ball if you are a righty. Now face away from the target. Not looking directly at the target may seem awkward at first, but go with it, relax, and loosen up your body.
Step 2: Now hold the club (whichever you like) with it extended downwards from your most dominant hand. The blade should be pointing towards the ground, directly at your feet.
Step 3: Next, place the blade of your club behind the golf ball and turn your head slightly back in order to properly aim your shot.
Step 4: Pull the club upwards while extending it forward. Then swing the club down and along your target line as best possible. Follow through as far as you possible can.
Step 5: Resist the urge to turn around to see the end result. Simply concentrate on following through and getting the ball back in to play towards the green.
We “older” golfers tend to forget basics, and/or ignore them…. Don’t, it’s always a good idea to get back to them regularly.
He returned to the game in April, but his playing appears to have suffered from his personal tribulations.
Here are the key facts about Woods’ life and career:
MAKING HIS NAME
* Born in Cypress, California on December 30, 1975. His full name is Eldrick Tont Woods.
* A child prodigy, he won three consecutive U.S. junior titles and three successive U.S. amateur championships before turning professional in late 1996.
* Ended that year with PGA Tour victories at the Las Vegas Invitational and Walt Disney Classic.
EARLY MAJOR IMPACT
* Became the youngest Masters winner with a tournament record aggregate of 18-under-par 270 at Augusta National in 1997. His victory margin of 12 shots was the biggest in the tournament’s history.
* After a lean spell in 1998, when he revamped his swing with coach Butch Harmon, Woods won eight titles in a golden run on the 1999 PGA tour, including his second major at the PGA Championship.
* In 2000, Woods produced one of the most successful seasons in golfing history. Romped to victory by a record 15 strokes in the U.S. Open, coasted home by eight shots in the British Open and claimed his second PGA Championship.
* Became the fifth and youngest player to win a career grand slam of all four majors. Ended the year with nine titles on the PGA Tour, having completed his sixth in a row at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in February.
* Woods won his second Masters crown in 2001 to become the first player to hold all four professional major titles at the same time.
LOSES NUMBER ONE RANKING
* Over the next four years, Woods piled up four more major victories after embarking on the second revamp of his swing since turning professional.
* He broke Greg Norman’s record for most weeks as world No. 1 with a combined tally of 332, but his five-year reign at the top finally ended in September 2004 when Fijian Vijay Singh took over.
GLOBAL DOMINANCE
* In 2005, Woods won his fourth Masters title, a second British Open and reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking in June, which he has held ever since.
* Suffered an emotional 2006, having to deal with the illness and death in May of his father Earl before winning the last two majors of the year, the British Open and the PGA Championship. Ended that season with 11 titles worldwide, including six in a row on the PGA Tour.
* Clinched his fourth PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in 2007 and finished second at the 2008 Masters before undergoing knee surgery two days later.
KNEE PAIN
* In his first tournament after an eight-week break, Woods defied stabbing knee pain and a double stress fracture of his left tibia to win his 14th major title with a playoff victory.
* He then shut down his 2008 campaign to have reconstructive knee surgery.
COMPETITIVE RETURN
* Returned to competitive golf at the WGC-Match Play Championship in Arizona in February 2009.
* Missed the cut in a major for the second time as a professional at the British Open and lost for the first time while leading a major into the final round at the U.S. PGA Championship when he was overtaken by South Korea’s Yang Yong-eun.
* Still won six PGA Tour titles, was unbeaten for the U.S. at the President’s Cup and won the year-ending Fed-Ex Cup and the Australian Masters.
CAR CRASH
* In the early hours of November 27, 2009, Woods was taken to hospital after he crashed his car into a fire hydrant and tree. His Swedish wife, Elin Nordegren, was reported to have smashed the car’s back window with a golf club to get him out.
* He was issued with a ticket for the accident, although U.S. media reported he and Nordegren had been arguing before the crash.
* On December 1, he withdrew from the Chevron World Challenge, a tournament he hosts to benefit his charitable foundation, citing injuries from the crash. Media speculation began to swirl about his personal life.
* He said on December 2 he “had let his family down” after reports of extra-marital affairs with several women emerged.
* He issued a statement on his website on December 11 that he had committed infidelity and was taking an “indefinite break” from golf.
* On February 19, 2010, in his first public appearance after the scandal erupted, Woods made a formal apology before a small group of reporters that was carried live on U.S. television.
* He said he had undergone 45 days of in-patient therapy for “guidance for the issues I’m facing” but did not elaborate. He said he had “a long way to go” in repairing his personal life.
RETURN TO GOLF
* Woods returned to the golf circuit at the U.S. Masters tournament in April and his game has been erratic since.
He had his worst finish on the U.S. PGA Tour circuit at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in August, stringing together four over-par rounds to finish near the bottom.
* On August 23, 2010, he and wife issued a joint statement through their lawyers saying they had divorced, and had agreed on shared parenting of their two small children. The pair were present at the Bay County Circuit Court in Florida when their marriage was dissolved.

A common complaint that I hear from golfers is that they feel like they can’t break through their scoring barriers. Common barriers are breaking 100, 90, 80, even par, 70 and, nowadays on the PGA Tour, 60.
Now more than ever, we are seeing scoring barriers broken through. New scoring records are being set on the PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour and even on the local scene in junior golf tournaments. This year on the PGA Tour, we have already seen Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby shoot 59s.
So what is the key to breaking through your scoring barriers? Here are my keys to helping you break through:
HAVE A GAME PLAN: The majority of golfers that tee it up have no game plan for how they are going to manage their games to produce the lowest score possible. It is a hit-and-hope attitude.
When you are going out to play, set up a strategy on how you are going to play each hole. On the scorecard, each hole is given a ranking of difficulty; a number 1 handicap hole is the most difficult hole on the course, where an 18 handicap hole is the easiest.
So my question to you is: “Are you playing the easiest hole with the same strategy as playing the most difficult hole?” Many golfers have no idea which holes are the easier ones and which ones are the more difficult ones.
My advice is to play the difficult holes with a conservative strategy. If it’s a par 4, then play it as a par 5 by laying up in front of the green and play for a pitch on and one-putt. On the easier holes, play a more aggressive strategy by attacking the pins on the approach shots.
TECHNIQUE: It was once said by Abraham Lincoln that “the level of thinking that has gotten you to where you are now will not get you to where you want to go.” Meaning that you have to constantly be trying to search for ways to continue to improve and refine your technique.
I am constantly amazed that many of the golfers that I meet for the first time in a golf lesson have never seen their golf swings on video, let alone have their swings analyzed by a teaching professional on video. To me, that is like playing the piano for years with cotton in your ears, never hearing what you sound like.
Whether you like it or not, the fact remains that the golf swing requires certain angles to be created in the swing (geometry). Seeing your swing on video will only give you greater clarity about the motion of the golf club in reference to your target line. wilson golf
The secret of success in every golf game lies on the individual alone; in playing these games it is every man for himself. Improving your golf swing is as easy as learning to count from one to ten. It only requires a couple of movements to help refine the craft of hitting the golf ball. In swinging to hit your ball, you have to teach yourself the many ways a person’s body performs their movements.
Not everyone can improve their swings with the basic swing movements typically taught by experts, although these improvement tips may help you a lot. It all takes practice and being able to adapt your bodies to the perfect swing because no two people have exactly the same way of hitting the ball. Each and every person has their own way of moving their body to achieve the golf swing that is perfect for them.
Tips to improving one’s capability for a perfect swing include rotating the hand through the ball. This kind of technique should not be done with the wrist, because this might cause the infamous wrist break common among amateur golfers who tried improving their swings with this method. The secret to this is keeping the forearms close together so that the ball can cover better distance once it is struck. One should also feel tensions and stability in both their knees during a backswing.
For every backswing, position your hands as in a handshake. This will ensure a firm hold on the club and a more pronounced hit on the ball. In doing backswings, pause at the top. You should not be too eager to hit the ball. The correct process is to maintain your own rhythm and pace in swinging the club. Another secret to improving your golf swing is giving your all with your muscles. Every game relies on the capability of the player to muscle their efforts. A powerful swing uses the trunk muscles and the muscles in your legs.
It is important for every golf player to swing in unison with the breeze, more often than not, this puts the right amount of force on the ball bringing it close to the hole. A balanced and solid swing is a key to better performance. Every player should know that this tip should be the very foundation of swinging the golf club perfectly.
Another helpful tip is to swing through the ball. This means that right after you hit the ball you should extend the hitting motion, right into the air in front of you. Players should also take note of the importance of swinging smoothly with the precision and accuracy of every professional golfer. Experts describe this technique as doing it ‘light and lazy’, as if you have all the time and confidence in the world.
Though there are plenty of tips to choose from that will improve your swing, the most vital steps to improving your abilities in swinging a golf club would be to believe in yourself, exhibit ample patience, and take plenty of time for practice. These would all make a world of difference in improving your golf swing.
